What is Omega 3, 6, 9 and why will children benefit from having Omega 3 in their diet?

Omega 3 is the name of a type of fat that is found in oil-rich fish and some plant oils. It's from the family of 'good' fats - polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that are not only beneficial for health but are essential in the diet. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are called essential fatty acids as your body cannot produce them on its own so they have to be ingested. These essential fatty acids support the learning and development needs of growing children. They are very important for brain development and immune system function.

Meeting the recommended daily amount of omega 3 and 6 can be a struggle in children as these essential fatty acids are only found in certain foods and these foods are not commonly eaten by children.

The best sources of omega 3 and omega 6 are seeds, nuts and grains and green leafy vegetables, like lettuce, broccoli and kale, oily fishes, flaxseeds and walnuts.

Omega 9 is another fatty acid that also has various benefits for human health and fitness. The main source of Omega 9 is animal fat and vegetable oil.

Does the Omega 3, 6, 9 in the Peppa Pig, Fitvits and Thomas & Friends vitamins come from fish?

No, the Omega 3, 6, 9 in all the vitamins are from Perilla Oil derived from the Perilla Plant. This means all our Omega 3, 6, 9 vitamins are suitable for vegetarians and are free from any fishy taste or smell.

What is the best time of day to take Fitvits, Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends vitamins?

The best time to take vitamins is during the day after a meal. Fitvits have made life a little easier for both children and parents by packing Fitvits in small daily sachets containing the recommended daily allowance so that they can eat after breakfast or lunch. Please note that you should never take supplements on an empty stomach as they will quickly pass out in your urine before your body can benefit from the goodness.

Are Fitvits, Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends vitamins tested on animals?

No, Fitvits do not test any of their products on animals.

Why are Fitvits, Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends nutritional supplements beneficial for children?

Fitvits are nutritionally beneficial as they provide children with the recommended daily allowance of vitamins required for healthy growth and development. Children's diets can sometimes be very low in, or even lack certain vital nutrients such as Vitamin A and Vitamin D and it can also be difficult to get children to eat the recommended 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day so they may not be getting the vitamins their bodies need. If children are deficient in certain vitamins then this can affect their growth and development. Fitvits will provide support with a boost of healthy vitamins and Omega 3 goodness, but remember that taking Fitvits is not a cure-all for an unhealthy diet so be sure to combine the supplements with a healthy and nutritious balanced diet.

What age does my child need to be to start taking Fitvits, Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends vitamins?

We recommend that your child be 3 years old.

Do Fitvits, Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends vitamins contain GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)?

The manufacture of these vitamins is also GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) compliant. This means that the vitamins are produced to a very high standard resulting in a proven quality product.

Each box of Fitvits and Peppa Pig vitamins contain 7 mini packs and Thomas & Friends contain 20 mini packs. Each mini pack provides the daily amount of essential vitamins that can be enjoyed at home or on the move.

Does this mean my child who is a fussy eater is getting all the nutrition they need?

The multi-vitamins provide the daily requirement your child needs for the vitamins and minerals stated such as Vitamin A, D, E, C,B5, B12, Folic Acid and Calcium (if the child takes the calcium supplement in addition to the multivitamin). These vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that your child needs in small amounts so their body can work properly. However, children struggle to get enough of these vitamins and minerals as they are commonly found in foods that children do not like and are fussy about, for example, fruits and vegetables. Giving your child a daily supplement will ensure they are meeting their daily recommended requirement for Vitamin A, D, E, C, B5, B12, Folic Acid and Calcium (if the child takes the calcium peppa pig supplement).

What age should/can my child start & stop taking vitamins?

These multivitamins are appropriate for children aged 3 and over. The Department on Health recommends that young children under the age of 5 years should take a supplement containing vitamins A, C and D to ensure the child gets everything they need. This is especially important when they are learning to eat a variety of foods and if they are fussy eaters. If young children are taking approximately 500ml (1 pint) of infant formula then a supplement may not be necessary as the infant formula contains added vitamins.

What does the RDA stand for on the packaging?

The RDA (Recommended Daily/Dietary Allowance) is the daily dietary amount of vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy to avoid nutritional deficiencies. The RDA's are tailored to women, men, and specific age groups and the ones on the packet give the daily allowance of vitamins and minerals that your child needs between the ages of 3-12 years.
